Peter J. Miller

Position: Partner
Joined Calvert: 2010

Peter Miller specialises in all aspects of property law, including commercial, investment, leasehold and charity property, and commercial and housing development.

He studied law at Cambridge University and qualified as a solicitor in 1975. In 1979 he joined Debenham & Co in London SW1, specialising in commercial property and acting for major property companies.

He subsequently joined Stephenson Harwood, where, from 1981, he dealt with many landmark and substantial commercial property transactions, including ones involving construction contracts, acting for major property companies, institutions, banks, and top 5 accountants firms.

He has a reputation for his logical drafting skills (which he attributes to his classical education and computer programming skills!) and for being a good negotiator.

Memorable matters handled personally include -

  • Sales of several major City landmark buildings in the 1980s
  • Mortgage of a Falkland Islands hotel (under Falkland Islands law) for a major clearing bank
  • Acting as Parliamentary Agent in a petition against the Channel Tunnel Rail Link Bill
  • Successful advocacy at a Lawful Use planning inquiry against a QC for City of Westminster
  • Sales of a world-famous stately home and an Elizabethan manor house
  • Custom housing development scheme for a common interest community
